100 Mile Cycle-athon

Like February’s ‘Beast from the East’, last week Sport Relief swept the nation with people up and down the country getting involved to do their bit for charity and Sphere was no exception.

On Friday 23rd March the challenge was set, The Sphere Cycle-athon - 100 miles, 6 hours and 21 willing cyclists...

The group was made up of keen cyclists, regular ‘spinners’ and some who hadn’t been on so much as a Boris Bike for years. Some took to the saddle in jeans, some in shorts and Swaran donned his tightest lycra shorts specially for his 15-minute stint.

Despite many of the team having limited cycling experience everyone dug deep and we crossed the finish line at 4pm completing 102.2 miles in the 6 hours!

For those that didn’t want to take part in cycle there was also a huge spread of cakes, cookies and homemade doughnuts for sale with all the proceeds going to both Sport Relief and Centrepoint, our chosen charity for the year.

The day was organised by our newly formed 2018 Charity Committee led by 3 of our consultants and the final tally, plus a contribution from Sphere for the cycle - £492.96!

A fantastic effort from everyone involved and the first charity day of many this year.
